Gegründet 1973 in Philadelphia
Neulinge auf der Szene sind sie nicht —im Gegenteil; schon einige Zeit bevor der Philadelphia-Sound überhaupt geboren wurde — vor 7 Jahren — gab's den Kern der Truppe.

Zu dem gehört nämlich auch Leon Huff, Pianist und Gelegenheits-Schlagzeuger, und zusammen mit Kenny Gamble Erfinder dieses Sounds, außerdem fast die ganze Mannschaft, mit der die beiden ihre Konzeption in Musik um-setzen. Neben Huff an den Keyboards sind das Ronnie Baker (Baß), Norman Harris, Bobby Eli und Roland Chambers (Guitar), Karl Chambers und Earl Young (Percussion), Lennie Pakula (Keyboards), Vince Montana (Vibes) und Larry Washington (Congas und Bongos).

Zusammen bilden sie die eigentliche „Seele" des Philadelphia-Sounds, denn sie waren lange Zeit die Musiker hinter den Einzelkünstlern. So machten sie z. B. bei den O'Jays und deren „Back Stabbers" mit, bei Billy Pauls „Me And Mrs. Jones", und auf Alben von Laura Nyro („Gonna Take A Miracle"), Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, den Intruders, Spinners und Stylistics. Aber auch zwei eigene LPs von MFSB liegen bereits vor, „MFSB I" und „MFSB II (Love Is The Message)", wie immer in den Sigma-Sound-Studios in Philadelphia aufgenommen.
