Sergio Mendes and Brasil '66 were discovered by Herb Alpert. Herb also co-produced Sergio's early recordings which took them into the American Top 10 Chart with LOOK OF LOVE and FOOL ON THE HILL, both of which are included on this recording. Shortly after they released a version of Simon & Garfunkel's SCARBOROUGH FAIR as well as interpreting contemporary standards in their own distinctive style. The group is made up of a six piece band with vocals shared by Sergio Mendes and two female singers Karen Phillipp and Lani Hall. Sergio Mendes and Brasil '66 established themself internationally with their contemporary standard and latin rhythms along with sensitive brass and string arrangements. They played EXPO 70 in Japan which helped boost their worldwide record sales into Millions. The group's line-up has changed over the years but not their recording success which still remains strong both here and across the Atlantic.
