Eleanor McEvoy: Love Must Be Tough (LP)

Eleanor McEvoy – Love Must Be Tough is a distinctive album by the Irish singer-songwriter, originally released in 2008 on Moscodisc. It is McEvoy's seventh studio album and combines her own compositions with carefully chosen interpretations of songs written and recorded by other artists. The album opens with Mother's Little Helper, her interpretation of the Rolling Stones classic, and continues with the title track Love Must Be Tough, Old New Borrowed And Blue, Lubbock Woman, If You Want Me To Stay and Roll Out Better Days. The second half includes The Night May Still Be Young, But I Am Not, Hands Off Him, Shame On The Moon, Easy In Love, He Never Spoke Spanish To Me and the closing track I Knew The Bride (When She Used To Rock 'n' Roll). The album contains 12 tracks and runs for approximately 42 minutes. Love Must Be Tough combines folk, rock and singer-songwriter elements while highlighting McEvoy's distinctive voice and individual musical approach. It is an appealing choice for listeners who enjoy sophisticated songwriting, acoustic textures and interpretations that put familiar material into a different musical context.
