The subtitle of this 1968 album is "a psychedelic excursion into the magical mysteries of the Koran," and if that doesn't make your multi-culti heart beat faster, you should at least reach for some headphones.

The late Pat Martino's Baiyina rivals and perhaps surpasses John McLaughlin's more famous explorations of the East, with droning sitars, hypnotic tapping tabla, unusual time signatures and a first-rate band (featuring bassist Richard Davis, drummer Charlie Persip and Gregory Herbert, making his recording debut, on alto sax and flute) to provide a jazzy guitar-rich answer to Coltrane and Ravi Shankar (and takes Miles' In a Silent Way with its quietly pulsating improvisational probing).
This is the first time in 30 years that Baiyina has been reissued, and the first time ever on colored (orange) vinyl.
