Cash, der jüngere Bruder von Johnny Cash, verfügt im Vergleich zu diesem über eine weniger ausdrucksstarke Stimme und war dadurch immer mit einer gewissen Hypothek belastet. Dennoch war er Ende der 60er Jahre recht erfolgreich und konnte sich immer wieder in der Country Hit Parade platzieren. Anfang der 60er Jahre war er als Soldat in der Bundesrepublik stationiert und als Moderator der AFN-Sendung Stickbuddy Jamboree bekannt geworden.
