The Spotnicks

Sie waren die kontinentaleuropäische Instrumental-Konkurrenz für die Shadows (UK) und die Ventures (USA). Als die Sowjets 1957 ihren ersten Sputnik ins All schossen, gründeten die Schweden Bo Winberg (Gitarre), Bob Lander (Gitarre), Björn Thein (Bass) und der englische Drummer Derek Skinner die Band, die stets in Raumfahreranzügen auftrat.

Neben Amapola, der Erkennungsmelodie vieler Hörfunksendungen, zählen Orange Blossom Special, Ghost Riders In The Sky und der Olympia-Nachzieher If You Could Read My Mind (1972) zu ihren Hits.
