Geboren in Oklahama am 9. Juli 1916, begann Pianist Joe Liggins Aufnahme für Exklusiv in Los Angeles im Jahr 1945 mit mellow 'City Blues' Material. Sein Ruf wuchs schnell und ermutigte Bruder Jimmy, eine Boxkarriere zu verlassen und seine eigene Band, auf Gitarre, für Specialty zu führen. Joe's Rolling Boogie `Honeydripper 'erwies sich als beliebt, und er trat seinem Bruder bei Specialty im Jahr 1950, wo er hatte eine sofortige Million Verkäufer' Pink Champagne '. Jimmy und seine Drops of Joy verzeichneten bis 1955, letztlich auf Aladdin und Duplex, während Joe und seine Honeydrippers mit Spezialität bis 1959 blieben, bevor er nach Mercury wechselte und 1974 für Johnny Otis 'Blues Spectrum Label aufnahm.
