For over 45 years, he has recorded a series of spiritual and soulful jazz albums that come closer to the ethos and aesthetic of John Coltrane than probably any of Lawrence's contemporaries. People Moving, recorded in 1976 for the legendary Prestige label, is his third solo album, and it is one of his best. The album features luminaries such as Lee Ritenour, Patrice Rushen, Harvey Mason and Mtume on a series of funky tracks produced by the young Skip Scarborough, who was later responsible for recordings by Bobbie Humphrey, Con Funk Shun and Phyllis Hyman, among others. First vinyl reissue!
