The Johnson Sisters

Known as the 'Sweethearts Of Gospel Music' this sister quartet began their career in the mid-fifties, mixing pop harmonies with traditional gospel music. The sisters – Mary, Margaret, and the twins, Judy and Anna – hailed from Birmingham, Alabama and were initially discovered by gospel promoter Wally Fowler. In addition to their own records, the sisters also provided back-up vocals for many other artists, which probably led to their recruitment for the Ernest Tubb Show. The group retired from performing in the late sixties to devote more time to their families. They reunited in 1996 for the Grand Ole Gospel Reunion show and returned to performing on a limited basis until retiring for a second time.
