The 72-year-old bluesman Jimmy "Duck" Holmes' new album, "Cypress Grove", produced by Dan Auerbach, captures the raw, explosive sound of the real Mississippi Juke-Joint Blues. "Cypress Grove" is an acoustic postcard of a typical Saturday night at Holmes' Blue Front Café, America's longest working juke joint. The album is traditionally anchored - which is natural as Holmes is the last of the original rural style torch runners known as Bentonia blues - but it's also explosive, raw and unpredictable at the moment.

With a top-class cast of players like Auerbach, Marcus King, Eric Deaton and Sam Bacco as well as Holmes' repertoire of songs from almost a century, the adventurous 11-songset is an untamed bridge between the present and the classical sounds of the Delta. Recorded at Auerbach's Easy Eye Sound Studio in Nashville, TN.

Hypnotisches Bluesalbum

Jimmy Duck Holmes hat sich für sein neues Album Dan Auerbach als Produzenten und Mitspieler geholt. Eingespielt wurden 11 Bluesklassiker z.b. Catfish Blues, Rock me oder Little Red Rooster. Das ist nichts besonderes. Das tolle an diesem Album ist die sehr ausdrucksstarke Bluesstimme von Jimmy Duck Holmes und die Band um Dan Auerbach, die die überwiegendene Mehrheit der Songs im Mississippi Hill Country Blues spielt, besonders bekannt durch die Alben von Fat Possum Records. Ein spannendes Bluesalbum, das vom ersten bis zum letzten Song begeistert.
