In the first third of the 20th century, Trude Hesterberg, a native of Berlin, succeeded Fritzi Massary as the nation's number one soubrette. She reached her first artistic peak when she opened the "Wilde Bühne" in 1921 (in the cellar of the Theater des Westens). There she collaborates with authors such as Kurt Tucholsky and Walter Mehring. In 1931 she is on stage together with Lotte Lenya in Bert Brecht's "Mahagony".
