Ihr Musikstil, den Griffith selbst als „Folkabilly“ bezeichnete, galt als einzigartig und genreübergreifend. „Other Voices, Other Rooms“ war Nanci Griffiths zehntes Studioalbum. Der Name des Albums geht auf den gleichnamigen Roman von Truman Capote zurück. „Other Voices, Other Rooms“ wurde 2005 von der RIAA mit Gold ausgezeichnet, was bedeutet, dass in den Vereinigten Staaten 500.000 Einheiten verkauft wurden.
1998 veröffentlichte Griffith ein Folgealbum mit dem Titel Other Voices, Too (A Trip Back to Bountiful).
