Billy Grammer

Billy Grammer came up through C&W as a valued lead guitarist in the bands of Clyde Moody and Jimmy Dean, and developed into a successful vocalist and songwriter. Born August 28, 1925 in Benton, Illinois, he started in C&W radio in Washington in 1949. In 1959 his Monument recording `Gotta Travel On' became an enormous American hit (sell­ing a million copies) and several lesser pop and C&W hits followed.

He has recorded also for Decca, Rice, and Epic and gained a nationally networked TV show. Among his many successful songs are 'I Wanna Go Home', 'Jesus Was A Soul Man' and `Bonaparte's Retreat'.
