A Voice for the Ages – Farewell to a Pop Icon It is with deep sorrow that we bid farewell to Connie Francis, one of the most successful and versatile singers of the 20th century. Her unmistakable voice, her musical range spanning rock’n’roll, pop, and heartfelt ballads, and her profound cultural impact across generations make her a true icon of modern music history. Born Concetta Rosa Maria Franconero on December 12, 1937, in Newark, New Jersey, she burst onto the international stage with the timeless hit “Who's Sorry Now” in 1958.
What followed was a string of global successes: “Where the Boys Are,” “Stupid Cupid,” “Lipstick on Your Collar,” and “My Happiness” became cornerstones of the soundtrack to an era. Connie Francis also held a special place in German hearts. Her German-language recordings – including “Die Liebe ist ein seltsames Spiel” and “Schöner fremder Mann” – turned her into one of the rare American artists who truly bridged the cultural divide between continents.
