Bubba Feathers with The Hi-Fly Rangers Raised On Rockabilly (LP, Ltd.)

This sparkling album marks another collaboration between The Hi-Fly Rangers and Bubba Feathers. Their partnership began at the Screamin' Festival in Spain in 2022, celebrating what would have been Charlie Feathers' 90th birthday. That event also served as the release party for The Hi-Fly Rangers' "Go Feathers!" album on Goofin Records. 

Bubba's guitar part for one song on that album was recorded in Memphis at the legendary Sun Studio. The collaboration continued last fall when Bubba flew to Finland, spending two long days in the Suprovox studio with The Hi-Fly Rangers, followed by a storming gig at Shamrock in Vantaa. 

Bubba's father, Charlie Feathers, was one of rockabilly's most legendary interpreters. Today, Bubba continues to honor his father'slegacy. He began playing in his dad's band while still in seventh grade, learning guitar basics from Charlie on his old Martin guitar. Bubba first entered the studio in 1968 at Select-O-Hit Studios in Memphis, playing drums in that session. Soon after, he switched to guitar, honing his skills through gigs at veterans' clubs across the United States. 

In 1974, Bubba played guitar on Charlie's "That Certain Female," recorded in the living room of Ronnie Weiser, who ran the small but feisty Rollin' Rock label in California. "The strings on the borrowed guitar were high off the neck, so it was hard to play. You can hear it in my solo," Bubba told me.
