Jakob Dylan rose to fame as the lead singer, guitarist and songwriter of the rock band The Wallflowers, founded in 1989.

For his first solo album, Jakob Dylan teamed up with Rick Rubin to record an acoustic album inspired by Rubin's work with Johnny Cash and Neil Diamond. The result is a wonderfully intimate record. Dylan's voice and the few instruments that accompany him make you feel like he's in the room with you.

Speaking about the sparse instrumentation and production, Dylan described the differences in the writing process for “Seeing Things” compared to writing for The Wallflowers:

“When you're writing songs, you're often aware that this line is just to get to the next line, and that someone's probably going to do an organ fill anyway - you can leave that out. But with something like this, it was really just three instruments, with the vocals being one of the instruments and then the lyrics being one of the instruments. You're more aware that things are going to be more exposed and you can't really let something go unless you're sure that's what you want to say.”

The album reached number 24 on the Billboard 200 in the USA.
