Geboren im Juni 1942 in Cook County Der Name Curtis Mayfield ist eng verbunden mit der Gruppe „Impressions', deren Leadsänger er bis 1970 war. 1956, Curtis war gerade 14 Jahre alt, gründete er in Chicago die Gruppe „Roosters'. Bergauf ging es allerdings erst, nachdem sie sich in „Impressions' umtaufte. 1958 gelang mit der Single „For Your Precious Love' schließlich der erste große Wurf. Dann hatten die Impressions mit „Gipsy Woman' einen weiteren Hit. Nachdem Mayfield 1970 die Impressions verlassen hatte, verlegte er sich verstärkt auf Komponieren, Texten und Produzieren. Bereits vorher hatte er seine eigene Schallplattenfirma „Cuitom Records' gegründet. Wenn er trotzdem eines Tages wieder begann, selbst zu singen, ist das in keiner Weise abwegig. Mit seinem ersten Titel „Superfly“ begann auch sogleich eine neue Erfolgsphase des beliebten Künstlers. Original Presse-Info: Metronome Records GmbH
