With 1971's Songs of Love and Hate, Cohen delivered one of his most emotionally intense sets, with such memorable numbers as'Avalanche,' 'Famous Blue Raincoat' and 'Joan of Arc' ranking with his greatest compositions. By the time Leonard Cohen began his recording career in 1967, the iconoclastic Canadian troubadour was already well established as a poet and author. He quickly emerged as one of the era’s most original and influential singer-songwriters, building a large and legendary body of work that continues to inspire artists and listeners alike.

Much of Cohen’s reputation and mystique was established by his early work for Columbia Records, particularly the five albums he recorded between 1967 and 1974. Now, these five classic albums, unavailable on vinyl for two decades, have been lovingly restored to their original LP format. For their new Sundazed editions, all five albums have been meticulously remastered and have been sourced from the original Columbia Records stereo masters in order to preserve the sound of the original albums. In keeping with the exacting standards for which Sundazed has become known, each album will be pressed on high-definition vinyl, with complete original cover art.

Leonard Cohen wurde 1934 als Sohn einer begüterten Familie russisch-jüdischer Herkunft in Montreal geboren. Nachdem er in Kanada und in den USA Literatur, Wirtschaft und Jura studiert hatte, begann er im väterlichen Betrieb zu arbeiten.

Allerdings nur für kurze Zeit, denn nebenbei hatte er Gedichte geschrieben und veröffentlichen lassen. Als er für dieses erste literarische Werk ein Stipendium des Canada-Council bekam, entschloss er sich, Schriftsteller zu werden. Er zog sich auf die griechische Insel Hydra zurück und schrieb seine ersten Romane The Favourite Game' und Beautiful Losers', zwei Bücher, die sofort, nicht nur VOH den Kritikern, sondern auch von den Lesern, gelobt wurden (300 000 Exemplare wurden verkauft). Von nun an galt _C0hen als der vielversprechendste der Jungen kanadischen Autoren'.

Seine vier Gedichtbände Let us compare Mythologies', Flowers for Hitler', Spice Box Of Earth' und Parasites of Heaven' wurden sogar zu Bestsellern in den Vereinigten Staaten. Im Jahre 1967 entschloss er sich, seine Gedichte zu vertonen und vorzutragen. Warum? Damit ein breites Publikum meine Poesie kennenlernt', sagte er. Junge Menschen hören lieber Musik, als dass sie ein Buch lesen. Also werde ich meine Bücher vorsingen!'
