The Clouds: The Clouds Scrapbook (LP)
(Chrysalis Records) 11 tracks
Released in 1969, Clouds' debut album “The Clouds Scrapbook” showcases the band's distinctive organ sound, which was a precursor to the style of later prog rock icons such as Emerson, Lake & Palmer and Yes. Billy Ritchie, the band's organist, was particularly influential, as he was one of the first to take on a prominent role as a keyboardist, setting a precedent for future musicians in the genre. The album was critically acclaimed upon its release and was named “Album of the Month” by Melody Maker in September 1969. Despite its initial success, the band struggled with commercial recognition, and their innovative approach was not widely appreciated at the time. In retrospect, however, Scrapbook is considered a seminal work that laid the foundation for the progressive rock movement. The newly remastered version of Scrapbook offers a new audience the opportunity to discover this groundbreaking work. The remastering process has improved the sound quality of the album, allowing the nuances of the band's arrangements to shine through. Chrysalis Reserve is a new series that offers a deep dive into the forgotten corners of our catalog. It brings to light forgotten masterpieces, cult classics, and cross-genre curiosities that deserve re-evaluation or proper introduction. The Clouds Scrapbook [Chrysalis Reserve]: Available on vinyl for the first time since its original release. Remastered and cut at AIR Mastering and manufactured at the Scottish pressing plant Seabass on heavy black vinyl.
