Gentle ballads with a soft rock production like "Stars on the Water", "California Promises" and "Twelve Volt Man" presented the former party animal as a thoughtful dreamer. There are also enjoyable tracks like "Distantly in Love" and "Why You Wanna Hurt My Heart?", in which Buffett is in a confessional singer/songwriter mode. Of course, it wouldn't be a typical Jimmy Buffett album if there weren't also a few humorous songs. While "I Used to Have Money One Time" is a little obnoxious, "Honey Do" and "We Are the People Our Parents Warned Us About" tell funny stories about being single and getting older. The album also includes a lively version of "Brown Eyed Girl". One Particular Harbour may not be a classic Buffett album, but it proves that he still has something to say after the party is over. Like Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes, this album is perfect for a weekend trip to the beach.
