Buchanan and Goodman made the Top Ten in 1956 with `The Flying Saucer', featuring excerpts from R&B records of the time — for example, Smiley Lewis'I Hear You Knocking' and the Penguins' Earth Angel' — which greatly aided the sale of the original versions. The combination of two paranoia-inducing fads, rock'n'roll and flying saucers, was certain to arouse teenage enthusiasm. `Flying Saucer The 2nd' made to Top Twenty the following year, and the duo — Bill Buchanan (born 1935) and Dickie Goodman (born 1934) — recorded other novelty items for Luniverse, Comic and PDQ before splitting up. Buchanan recorded on his own and with other partners on Novel, Gone, and United Artists, while Goodman continued to make the pop charts with a series of spoofs on TV programmes, including 'The Touch
