Who was/is Pete Brown ? - CDs, Vinyl LPs, DVD and more
Pete Brown, poet, songwriter and bandleader, was an im-portant catalyst in the British rock scene of the Sixties, while more recently he has contributed lyrics to Jack Bruce's solo work. Born on Dec. 25, 1940, in London, Brown with Michael Horovitz initiated the jazz and poetry movement which involved several musicians who were to be active in the British R&B scene, notably Jack Bruce and Graham Bond. In the mid-Sixties, Brown founded a series of ex-perimental rock groups — Battered Ornaments, Piblokto, etc. — whose members included Kokomo's Jim Mullen and gui-tarist Chris Spedding.
He also wrote extensively with Bruce for Cream, composing such songs as 'Sunshine Of Your Love' (It'll pay my rent for the rest of my life,' he once said) and 'Politician'. His records include three Piblokto albums on Harvest and The Not Forgotten Association (1973), a jazz-and-poetry album on Deram.
