BR5-49

Nachdem die Grand Ole Opry 1974 in einen Vorort umgezogen war, geriet Nashvilles Lower Broadway (im Allgemeinen als Lower Broad bekannt) in den Sog städtischen Verfalls. In der Juliausgabe des Billboard-Magazins von 1995 beschrieb Chet Flippo in seiner Coverstory eine “neue Szene”, die “in der Music City von selbst entstanden” sei.

Ermutigt durch die Eröffnung des neu gestalteten Ryman Auditoriums im Jahre 1994 zogen an der Tradition festhaltende Countrymusiker wie BR5-49 in die Honky Tonks der Lower Broad und begründeten eine lebendige Szene, die sowohl Kids als auch ältere Typen anzog und die eine bis heute andauernde Renaissance von Downtown Nashville anregte. 1996 kamen BR5-49 nach Deutschland, wo sie vom Südwestfunk gefilmt und mitgeschnitten wurden.
