Brenda Boykin & Home Cookin'

Born in Oakland, California, Brenda Boykin has made a career out of her love for jazz, blues, big band, early rock 'n' roll, and honky-tonk music. Her refreshingly diverse repertoire shows no racial barriers, and she is just as likely to sing a song by Buck Owens as one by Muddy Waters. (One of the descriptions of the music played by Boykin and her band, Home Cookin' is 'afrobilly.') Her reworking of T For Texasis Jimmie Rodgers meets B. B. King, with Boykin all but obscuring Rodgers' melody, changing the key from major to minor, and creating an entirely new song out of the original lyrics.
