September 1956 in Hackensack (New Jersey), begann sie mit Gospelmusik und bugsierte 1977 den Filmsong You Light Up My Life auf Position 1 der US-Charts; der Titel wurde außerdem der erfolgreichste US-Song des Jahres und erhielt einen 'Grammy'.
Die Enkelin von Country-Legende Red Foley schaffte mit California, God Knows und I'm Yours zwar weitere Hits, war aber danach wieder aus den Schlagzeilen verschwunden und widmete sich christlicher Musik.
