Whoever experiences Big Boy Bloater may involuntarily feel reminded of actor John Belushi in his parade role as Jake Blues in the classic film comedy Blues Brothers. When the weighty guitarist and singer brings the concert halls to a boil with his band as a full-blooded entertainer, he is usually dressed in black as a walking bundle of energy and always in the right style with his hat. Soon it turns out that Bloater internalizes the blues completely, but by no means takes it seriously.

Borders are there to be crossed, the 47-year-old Brit may think, when he celebrates with his band The Limits a sparkling style mix of pounding Southern Blues, R&B, seventies rock, as well as a strong pinch of soul here and there.

This can also be heard on his new album ''Pills'', whereby the new album marks an even more ambitious direction for The Limits, which combines a melting pot of ideas beyond the blues roots and Bloater's dark humor and personal experiences. ''I'm probably never serious enough, but I couldn't do it any other way'', he says.
