Hatten ihren ersten Auftritt Ende 1967 im Cairns Memorial Youth Club von Edinburgh als Amateure. Nannten sich damals The Saxons, tauften sich etwa 1 Jahr später in Bay City Rollers um. Tingelten wenig erfolgreich in Schottland, bis sie 1971 mit „Keep on Dancing' einen ersten Hit hatten. Aber erst 1974 begann ihr Stern wie ein Komet zu steigen. Am 9. 1. 1974 traten sie in der TV-Show „Lift off' auf, sangen „Remember“ und waren 6 Wochen später in den Hitparaden. Zunächst galten sie in England als die neuen Osmonds, waren mit „Shang-A-Lang', „Summerlove Sensation' und „AIl of me loves all of you' mit 4 Songs 1974 in den englischen Hitparaden vertreten. 1975 folgte ein Triumph nach dem anderen bei Konzerten. Kritiker fühlten sich an die Beatles erinnert - Massenhysterie, in Ohnmacht fallende Fans und machtlose Polizisten bei jedem Auftritt. Pianist Alan Longmuir (geboren 20.6.1950 in Edinburgh), sein Bruder, Schlagzeuger Derek Longmuir (geboren 19.3.1955 in Edingburgh), Sologitarrist Eric Faulkner (geboren 21.10.1954 in Edinburgh), Bassist Stuart Wood (geboren 25. 2.1957 in Edinburgh) und Sänger Leslie McKeown (geboren 12.11.1955 in Edinburgh) gehören damit zu den erfolgreichsten neuen Gruppen des Pop-Rock.
