Among The Oak & Ash Among The Oak & Ash (LP)

Among The Oak & Ash bring traditional American folk music together with a fresh and distinctive modern approach. The project was formed by singer-songwriters Josh Joplin and Garrison Starr, who teamed up to reinterpret traditional folk songs and spirituals. Their self-titled debut was released in 2009 on Verve Forecast, combining old ballads and folk traditions with folk-rock elements and inventive arrangements. Their version of Peggy-O stands out as a notably more rock-oriented interpretation, while the album also includes a cover of a song by The Smiths as a bonus track. Other selections include Hiram Hubbard, Angel Gabriel, Shady Grove, The Water Is Wide, The Housewife's Lament, Pretty Saro and All The Pretty Little Horses. The LP carries EAN 0602527063638 and is an appealing find for collectors and listeners who want traditional folk presented with fresh energy rather than treated as a museum piece.
