They gained international stardom in 1987 when their cover version of Ritchie Valens' 'La Bamba' topped the charts in the US, the UK and in several other countries.

After marking their 40th band anniversary in 2013 with the wittily titled band album "Disconnected In New York City", this hard-working and equally constantly touring band Los Lobos - consisting of David Hidalgo, Louie Perez, Cesar Rosas, Conrad Lozano and Steve Berlin - are throwing themselves headfirst into their fifth decade as a band.

"Gates Of Gold" is their first full studio album since 2010's "Tin Can Trust", which was nominated for a Grammy for "Best Americana Album". The dynamic songwriting, profound and poetic lyrics, thoughtful romantic and spiritual themes and eclectic mix of musical styles on the eleven-track collection are grounded in an American saga that reaches into the rich literary tradition of John Steinbeck and William Faulkner. The album comes 30 years after Los Lobos' major label breakthrough with "How Will The Wolf Survive", their 1984 album that Rolling Stone named number 30 of the "100 Greatest Albums of the Eighties". Three decades, two Grammys, the runaway success of "La Bamba" and thousands of gigs later, Los Lobos are not living badly - and still jam with the same raw intensity they had when they first got together in a garage in 1973.

After celebrating their 40th anniversary in 2013 with the live album "Disconnected in New York City", the Los Angeles-based band - consisting of David Hidalgo, Louie Perez, Cesar Rosas, Conrad Lozano and Steve Berlin - jumps headfirst into their fifth decade, opening new, exciting "Gates of Gold". "We are a Mexican-American band and no other word describes America like the word 'immigrant'. Most of us are children of immigrants, so it's probably natural that our songs praise America in that way," says Louie Perez, who is mostly responsible for writing the lyrics for Los Lobos.

Dynamic songwriting, deeply poetic lyrics, romantic as well as spiritual themes, and an eclectic mix of styles make up this eleven-song American saga, which follows in the literary tradition of such legendary authors as John Steinbeck and William Faulkner. Yet, as expected, the humble musical wolves went about their latest work without a grand vision in mind or an exact musical roadmap - 30 years after their 1984 breakthrough with the album "How Will The Wolf Survive?", which is ranked 30th on the list of the "100 Greatest Albums of the 1980s" by the American Rolling Stone magazine.

After several Grammy awards, the worldwide success of "La Bamba" and thousands of energetic concerts worldwide, Los Lobos still jam with the same intensity as they did in their home garage in the very beginning in 1973.
