Cliff Bennett. Von den Beatles an gab jeder zu, Cliff Bennett in der britischen Rockszene der Mitte der 60er Jahre zu respektieren, obwohl die Leute seine Platten selten kauften. Bennett wurde am 4. Juni 1940 geboren und gründete 1961 seine Gruppe, die Rebel Rousers. Die Gruppe bestand aus Dave Wen-dells (Leadgitarre), Maurice Groves und Sid Phillips (Saxophone), Frank Allen (Bass, ersetzt durch Bobby Thompson) und Mike Burt (Drums).

Seine Musik war Soul-basiert, und das Repertoire der Band umfasste Songs von Bobby Bland, den Drifters, Ray Charles und Bobby Parker. Der exzentrisch aussehende Allen sang sowohl'Püree' als auch das Original. Später nahm Bennett Roy Young in seine Band auf, einen ehemaligen Little Richard-Imitator, der nun zu Bobby Bland gewechselt war. Bennett und die Rebel Rousers hatten zwei Hits auf Parlo-phone: die Drifters' One Way Love' (1964) und die Beatles' Got To Get You Into My Life' (1966), aber ihre Platten gingen nie über einen hocheffizienten Plagiat hinaus. Bennett gründete später eine erfolglose progressive Rockband, Toe Fat.
