(2004 'Fat Possum') (35:38/10) Anfang der sechziger Jahre als Siebzehnjähriger in Detroit hatte er einen respektablen R&B-Hit. Danach ging's nur noch bergab - bis nach einigen Telefonaten mit Fat Possum ein Deal zustande kam. Die Aufnahmen sind ein verrückter Mix aus typischen Deltablues-Elementen, Soul und '60s Sounds (z.B. klingt der Organist wie Augie Myers ...). Schräg. Hat aber was / He had a respectable r&b hit record in the early sixties. He was seventeen and living in Detroit. Then his career felt into pieces. Until he kept calling Fat Possum records. Finally they signed him to the label and recorded him in Mississippi. The music's a weird yet fascinating mix of delta style blues (Fat Possum way), northern soul and 1960s rock (the organ reminds me of the Sir Douglas 5). Interesting.
