GATES, Lee: And The Alabama Cotton Kings

(2003 'Music Maker') (40:36/09) Der Gitarrist und Sänger wurde 1937 in Pontotoc, Mississippi geboren. Als Teenager kam er nach Milwaukee, wo er in den vergangenen fünfzig(!) Jahren in verschiedenen Bands seinen Blues spielte. Sein Cousin heißt Albert Collins, und dessen Stil schimmert ein wenig in seinem Stil und seinem Ton durch. Erstaunlich, wie viele unbekannte Bluesleute es nach wie vor in den USA gibt! Gut, Gates ist sicherlich nicht die Sensation, auf die wir alle warten. Und es gibt kraftvollere Sänger. Als Gitarrist kann er überzeugen, und alle Songs hat er selbst geschrieben. Guter elektrischer Blues, oder wie Produzent Tim Duffy schreibt, 'Good time party music!' /the guitarist/vocalist was born in 1937 in Mississippi. He moved to Milwaukee as a teenager where his been playing his brand of blues for the past 50(!) years. Albert Collins is his first cousin, and you can hear the family influence in Lee's fluid guitar style and tone. Amazing, how many un-discovered blues musicians are still working in the US. Gate's not the new blues sensation we are all longing for. Nonetheless, he's a pretty fine guitarist and decent singer. All originals.
