Who was/is Gary Von Ilg ? - CDs, Vinyl LPs, DVD and more

The Capitol tenure of Gary Von Ilg was exceedingly brief: one 1959 45 containing two self-penned efforts produced by Tom Morgan (Gary’s dad brought him to Memphis in search of a contract). Despite a brisk beat, twangy guitars, and Gary’s hyperkinetic vocal, Early Next Mornin’ wasn’t fated to garner much airplay with its giddily repeated “She’s dead” chorus (she stole his bread). I’ve Looked For You, the B-side ballad, had its own quirky touches. At the time of his January 13, 2019 death in Franklin, Tennessee at age 80, ‘Dutch’ Von Ilg was better known for his artwork, specializing in paintings and carvings of animals, though the Cleveland Heights, Ohio product continued writing songs after he quit singing. His When He Touches Me (Nothing Else Matters), written under wife Carolyn Varga’s name, was a 1969 R&B hit for Peaches & Herb (Solomon Burke and Percy Sledge cut it too).
