Arno Schmidt

Arno Schmidt, guitarist and singer, born 1955 in Rostock, sang and played in singing clubs during his school and army years. From 1976 to 1981 he worked as an accompanying musician and composer in the group of the singer Barbara Kellerbauer and completed a correspondence course in guitar at the Hochschule für Musik 'Hanns Eisler' Berlin. In 1981 he became a soloist and began the collaboration with the lyricist Ed Stuhler, which continues to this day. Her first program was called 'Hier lebe ich' and consisted of songs to photos from the Berlin district of Prenzlauer Berg. In 1986 Arno Schmidt founded a band and performed his new program 'Aber fliegen' with her. In 1988 it was released as a LP, whose title song became very popular. In 1988 the next program 'Now or never' was created. From 1988 to 1990, Arno Schmidt performed at the Festival des politischen Liedes. He signed the resolution of the rock musicians and songwriters for democratization and media freedom of 18.9.1989 and read it in his concerts. At the beginning of October, this led to a culture house being surrounded by members of combat groups. On November 9, 1989 he was in a rehearsal camp with his band and developed a new program. When he returned to Berlin, the political changes had made the program out of date. In 1991 Arno Schmidt broke up his band and performed as a duo with guitarist Frank Seidlitz. At the same time he worked as a computer technician, which remained his main profession for many years. After an artistic break of several years, he has appeared occasionally again since 2004 alongside his work in computer service.
