Who was/is Werner Pirchner ? - CDs, Vinyl LPs, DVD and more

Werner Pirchner

"I've always said I'm not Tyrolean, I was born in Tyrol and I live here." (Werner Pirchner)

Fact 172: A retired tax official taught Werner Pirchner on the buttonforgel. A career as a musician can also begin in this way.

Fact 223: His works have titles like "Wer hat Dir - Du schöner Wald - eine vor den Latz geknallt? or Die Donau ist blau - wer nicht? or album subtitles like "Was wir über das Leben nach dem Todde wissen und nearly 22 andere Lieder neben der Seite 3". The façade of bizarre titles conceals profound works - the results of intensive work.

Fact 345: After the lessons on the buttonforgel Pirchner worked as a dance musician. After that, he was a vibraphonist with Oscar Klein. Participation in the Vienna Art Orchestra. With guitarist Harry Pepl he formed the JazzZwio.

Quote 271 (Harald Quendler; Extraplatte): "A quite sensational thing, which was already available at the 2001 dispatch in Germany. After decades (in which it was sold out and as an absolute rarity just to buy heavy money), we put it back on CD with 17 bonus tracks. Also the Werner Pirchner was not the typical songwriter. Rather, he has been wandering around in free jazz and has subsequently made a career as a composer of the so-called E-music. Unfortunately, he died in the summer of 2001."

Quote 322 (Werner Pirchner, 1997): "In my youth I oriented myself to the latest jazz music. My preoccupation with Schönberg's theories and especially with Bach's sonatas for solo violin later opened up other ways of expression for me. Until I was 42 years old, out of respect for the greatest masters, I would not have dared to write even one note for a classical concert. As a composer, jazz musician and privileged casual worker I tried a) to express my ideas and feelings in dimensions accessible to me (various LPs with compositions, two films, a few texts & drawings etc.) and b) to influence the red-black play of colours on my bank account. [...] I try to write music that expresses what I think, feel ... and am at the moment. Or the opposite."

Quote 543 (Herbert Uhlir, Ö1): "In 1973 his 'Halbes Doppelalbum' appeared. Cynical texts unsettled many, the word 'scandal' was quickly at hand. His criticism of misunderstood homeland love was understood by his fans, elsewhere they found little love. The record was not played on ORF for 20 years."
