1959 saw the waxing of the developed rockin’ sounds of Wes Griffith and His Treys on Bella. The A-side Rockin’ Mary is a fantastic example of combining all kinds of rock ‘n’ roll in one dance tune: the rockin’ R&B basics, Chicano-styled lead vocals by Wes, clanking lead guitar, a rockabilly slap bass, and The Treys’ black doo wop vocals, mirroring the direction that rock and roll had taken by this point. The house band did a great job accompanying, this time as The Bella Tones Orchestra.
