Oskar Dénes

*May 08, 1891 - July 02, 1950

Born in Hungary, he initially worked as a chemist. Then, after an acting and singing education, he succeeded in gaining a foothold at the theatre in Budapest. An operetta by Paul Abraham makes Buffo Oskar Dénes a highly acclaimed star: "Viktoria und ihr Husar" is staged in Budapest at the beginning of 1930 with Oskar Dénes and his stage and life partner Rosy Barsony in the leading roles, then in August 1930 at the Metropol-Theater in Berlin, and is a boundless success. Soon the scat song "Do-do-do" turns on the gramophone from this operetta - of course from the gramophone. Scat singing - an art in itself that only a few master - was as popular as Charleston at the time.
