Leo Monosson

The name of the singer is well known to Berliners because of the Monosson & Levy family's bank in the city. Leo Monosson is a good-looking swarm of women who sang about well over 1,000 record pages between 1928 and 1933 for various societies, but the lion's share for the gramophone. Above all, Monosson is the first refrain singer who succeeds in breaking out of anonymity and appearing with names on the record labels.

He sings with many orchestras, with the Polydor Dance Orchestra for example the pop song "Mein Mädel ist nur eine Verkäuferin" (1930). Sometimes Monosson calls himself Leo Frank or Leo Emm. In sound films he always appears from time to time as a mood singer. The cinema audience got to know him among others in "Die Drei von der Tankstelle" (1930) or in "Das Lied vom Leben" (1931). - After Hitler seizes power, Monosson emigrates to the USA. However, he cannot continue his career there. He dies in 1976 in New York, completely destitute.
