Place de Brouckère - Swing and Hot from Belgium & Holland 1939 to 1945 (CD)

The 'Secret Messages' by Dietrich SchulzKöhn represent a special' hussar piece 'in the continental European swing history. At a time when in Germany the interception of so-called' enemy stations' on the highest command prohibited, jazz as alleged Niggermusik 'frowned upon and the supply of foreign swing and jazz records is interrupted, reports a German lieutenant from occupied Paris. from Belgium and Holland about the still active Swing scene. The thermocopied sheets circulate under the hand and are eagerly awaited by like-minded people. No doubt, the man has courage, because he writes about a topic that is spoken in the 'rich German' press at best negative and with derogatory remarks.

A driving force in Belgian musical life is F.R.Faecq, who many years ago founded the "Inter-national Music Co." which not only produced American arrangements, but also compositions by Belgians such as Pack-ay and D. Bee, who have earned a great name throughout the continent and have greatly contributed to the advancement of Belgian orchestras. In Faecq's publishing house, not only were arrangings available, but also records that served the musicians as a model (...)
