Discover the sunlit world of early sixties Ho Dads, Hot Rods, Honeys and Hot Doggers on this compilation. From Woodies, Wipe Outs and the Waves ... A complete California teen utopia where there were two girls for every boy in endless summers and the beach was the place to go ... After the Beach Boys' highly refreshing hit Surfin' Safari, Brian Wilson had the idea to write a Chubby Checker-style song about California's favorite pastime. He enlisted the help of surfer Jimmy
Bowles, who dutifully listed the most popular places to surf. Brian worked this into lyrics, borrowed a melody from Chuck Berry, and Surfin' U.S.A. became the Beach Boys' first top ten hit. Before the single was released, Brian played his surfing anthem to Jan and Dean. Jan was thrilled with what he heard and begged Wilson to give them the song. Brian declined. However, he offered them a little unfinished ditty, tentatively called Surfin' Woodie. Jan accepted, added an additional 5 lyrics and Surf City (the song and the myth) was born. The rest is history ...
