(Riverside) 40 tracks.

Country music was shaped in the Atlanta area in the early 1920s by accomplished solo fiddlers and various string bands. With the help of radio shows such as the Grand Ole Opry and pioneers Jimmie Rodgers and The Carter Family, the style soon gained popularity.In the 1930s and 1940s, some country musicians drew on other musical inspirations and developed swinging styles such as western swing, honky-tonk and hillbilly boogie.Meanwhile, African-American musicians, with their musical traditions of blues and jazz, developed rhythm and blues with its pioneering beat. The next few years saw more progressive musical exchanges, and by the mid-1950s the new musical cocktail rockabilly (basically a blend of country and rhythm and blues) was ready to take the world by storm. Sun Records in Memphis, Tennessee, released the pioneers of the genre: Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash. The purpose of this compilation is not only to show the logical connection between country music and rockabilly, but also the exchange between other important musical genres.
