Monroe Brothers

Charlie (1903-1975) and Bill Monroe (1911-1996) was the most famous of the brother duets that came out of the 1930s. Unlike other similar acts, the Monroes distinguished themselves due to the driving nature of their performances, with Bill playing the blistering mandolin style that would later spearhead the bluegrass movement of the 1940s and Charlie backing him up with rapid fire guitar rhythm. In My Dear Old Southern Home was actually Dear Old Sunny South By The Sea (a disguised title perpetrated by Eli Oberstein) which was written by E. T. Cozzens, another contributor to Rodgers' repertoire. The Monroes recorded it at their first session in February 1936.
