Rund 1,5 Millionen mal verkaufte sich seine 'Erkennungsmelodie': Bereits mit der zweiten Single Das kannst du mir nicht verbieten hat sich Spier (geb. am 6.4.1944 in Ludwigslust) 1963 ein Schlager-Denkmal gesetzt. Der Titel wurde im Original von Jerry Fuller (Komponist von Klassikern wie Travelin' Man, Young World) eingespielt, erschien dann deutsch und ging auf den Rücktransport. Die deutsche Fassung erreichte - wie zwei Jahre später Das war mein schönster Tanz - bei uns Platz 1. Auch mit deutschen Versionen von US-Klassikern (Memphis Tennessee) setzte Spier sich durch.
Born April 6, 1944, Spier sold 1.5 million copies of his signature tune, Das kannst du mir nicht verbieten in 1963. It made No.1, as did Das war mein schönster Tanz in 1965. The latter was the only song here which began life overseas. Initially recorded by Jerry Fuller (composer of such hits as Travelin' Man, Young World and Younger Girl) as I Only Came To Dance With You, Spier's English version made its way back across the Atlantic and was issued on Columbia Records. Lightning didn't strike twice, though; it wasn't an American hit for either Spier or Fuller. Spier went on to cut many German language versions of British and American classics such as Memphis Tennessee, Pretty Belinda, etc..
