Psychobilly Music CDs and Vinyl-Records

Psychobilly music came up around 1980 in England as a completely new style in the wide Rock'n'Roll field. Based on rough, tough Rockabilly styles of the 1950s, mixed with Punk Rock and a big spoon full of Sixties-Psychedelic along with 60s Surf-Garage sound, topped with elements of horror and crime.

This is a very energetic music mix presented with high octane speeds. It's roots are surely to be found in the influences of such bands like The New York Dolls, The Ramones and of course The Cramps. The Cramps was a band who already had a lot of Psychobilly elements in their music, as early as 1977!

P. Paul Fenech and the legendary Meteors

But the 'real' Psychobilly came from England and its founder, P. Paul Fenech, is the head of the legendary Meteors.

The metamorphosis of this musical style goes along with Fenech's own metamorphosis which is well documented in sound through the recordings of Fenech's first band Raw Deal, 1979/80. And the early tracks of The Meteors until 1981, including the soundtrack to the short movie 'Meteor Madness'; various sampler releases ('Home grown Rockabilly', 'Blood on the cats', etc.). And the first two Meteors LPs 'In Heaven' and 'Wreckin' Crew', which became milestones in Rock history.

Psychobilly and Neo-Rockabilly

Other bands followed this genre and came up with variations, with new sounds, gimmicks and ideas. Psychobilly has a large spectrum of creativity without having exact borders. Psychobilly and Neo-Rockabilly are bad-to-the-bone styles but free and open for its musicians.

Legendary Psychobilly bands and acts are Steve Whitehouse and his bands The Sharks and Frenzy, we have The Ricochets, The Krewmen, Guana Batz, Long Tall Texans, to name just a few.

Very important to be mentioned here are the live recordings from the legendary shows at London's Klub Foot at the Hammersmith. Another rich musical archive! Bear Family offers the most complete catalogue of Psychobilly music on CDs, DVDs, vinyl-records on 33rpm and 45rpm speed.
