Revival Rock and Roll - Rockabilly CDs and Vinyl-Records

This category includes 'Revival Rock 'n' Roll/Rockabilly' music CDs and Vinyl-Records from the late sixties up till today. Since these music streams are timeless there were as many as so-called 'revivals' from the late 1960s onward. It actually came through the British Teddy Boy scene which was roaming around since the mid-1950s becoming bigger and bigger towards the late 1960s/early 1970s. They started the first big Rockabilly ArtworksRock 'n' Roll and Rockabilly revivals in Europe. British Bands such as Shakin' Stevens & The Sunsets, Showaddywaddy, Alvin Stardust und Matchbox were storming up the charts. Rock 'n' Roll's second springtime happened! Besides the more commercial acts there were 'real' rockers like Crazy Cavan & The Rhythm Rockers, Sandy Ford & The Flying Saucers, and Vernon & The G.I's who successfully filled the venues in the European theatre.

The top of Old Smokey was reached after the Stray Cats immigrated from the United States to England back in 1980. Brian Setzer and his band soon became the most successful Rockabilly trio! Their releases were blowing up the charts under the direction of the legendary Dave Edmunds who also worked with Shakin' Stevens and had his own successes as well. The Stray Cats were something new, something exciting. They connected the style of 50s Rockabilly music with a mix of modern music-streams. There's a bit Ska and New Wave as well as the influences of their heroes Elvis Presley, Gene Vincent and Eddie Cochran. That was THE trend during the 1980s. Many more bands had been put together following the Stray Cats. The style and name of Neo-Rockabilly was founded. Best-known Neo-Rockabilly bands are The Polecats, Dave Phillips & The Hot Rod Gang, Restless, The Blue Cats and the early Meteors, who later transformed into Psychobilly.

Besides those new Rockabilly styles there always appeared many more or less conservative, so-called 'Authentic Rockabilly' bands using original equipment for their recordings in the style of the 1950s, no matter if they would cover old songs or play brand new self-written stuff. This so-called revival since then is a continious thing and after British and tons of other European bands showed how, the U.S.A. followed slowly. There was no other choice since this is definetly American music!

Apart from the 1969 hippie festivals in Toronto and San Francisco where stars like Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis appeared, the basis for the U.S. Revival was made by the legendary Rockin' Ronny Weiser and his Rollin' Rock label founded in the early 1970s. The Blasters came up, who had their first records on Rollin' Rock. The comeback of 1950s rockers such as Ray Campi and Ronnie Dawson followed. Big names like The Paladins, Go Cat Go and Kim Lenz, to name but a few. Big festivals like the Viva Las Vegas, Hemsby and Calella for example, show how much the scene is still growing worldwide. Many great bands like Scandinavia's Go Getters and Wildfire Willie. Switzerland gives us The Hillbilly Moon Explosion. In Germany there's Cherry Casino & The Gamblers. The Round-Up Boys, Ray Collins' Hot-Club, Rumble On The Beach, Black Raven, and Tin Roof Cats, and many more from countries around the globe...too many to name them all! Bear Family offers the most complete catalogue in the category of Revival Rock and Roll - Rockabilly on CDs, DVDs, vinyl-records at 33rpm or 45rpm speed.
