Heli von Westrem was more than friends with Elvis Presley during his service as G.I. She gives us an insight into her life at that time. She does not want to watch the partly hair-raising legend formation any longer inactive. Heli takes us with him and Elvis to Goethestraße 14, to the Friedberger Kaserne and to Paris. An alleged kidnapping of Elvis on the Johannisberg triggered an influx of fan letters to her. Some of them are contained in the book. - Helis' memories and the letters are a mirror of that time.
Elvis and Heli loved each other in the late 50's during his military service in Germany. Startum, love, Rock 'n' Roll, thirst for freedom and the post-war period characterize Heli von Westrems autobiography. Author Heli von Westrem was born as Heli Priemel on 28.6.1943 in Potsdam-Babelsberg (Ufa-Stadt); in 1945 she fled to Garmisch-Partenkirchen and then on to Frankfurt am Main. Heli von Westrem took part in many movies of her parents. In 1957 she was the first model of a fashion show of the fashion house Pfüller. In 1959 she appeared on 1st German Television as "Annabell" in Hans Joachim Kulenkampff's advice programme "Sieben auf einen Streich" (Seven in one go) with the then pop star Willy Hagara. In May of the same year her relationship with Elvis Presley began. From 1961 onwards she perfected her language skills with stays abroad in England, Spain and France. She received her Cambridge diploma in London. Heli von Westrem worked as an assistant director at the Hessischer Rundfunk. From 1964 she was a stewardess with Air France. One year after Elvis' wedding, in 1968, she married Rolf Staguhn, an outstanding tennis player whose playing quality was comparable to that of Boris Becker. Both have their birthdays on the same day. In the 70s, Heli von Westrem opened a boutique together with her sister. This was followed by appearances as a model and as a presenter at fashion shows. In 1978 she met Rudolf Constantin, a gifted opera singer who looked like Elvis and who, like Elvis, enchanted women in his genre, the opera. In 1982 Heli and Rudolf Constantin got married.

Elvis Presley (full name Elvis Aaron Presley) is the most outstanding personality in showbiz ever since, and the most popular entertainer the world has ever seen! His musical influence within music history and its following generations of musicians is still unbroken. His huge 'Blast-Off' in the mid-1950s, the rising star from a simply called 'Hillbilly Cat' (at Sun Records) to a lascivious Rock'n'Roll singer with charisma, a male sex symbol (then at RCA Victor) soon popularized him as "The King of Rock'n'Roll" or simply "The King".

His first cut within his tremendous career happened between October 1958 and March 1960 while Elvis was on duty with the U.S. Army and stationed in Germany. It was there in 1959 when he met his later wife Priscilla Beaulieu at age 14. Elvis and Priscilla married on May 1, 1967 in Las Vegas (divorce in 1973). Elvis evolved into an all-around entertainer after his Army service and started starring in Hollywood films. 33 movies in total, including the two concert documentaries 'That's The Way It Is' and 'On Tour'. He again shook the world with his 1968 NBC Comeback TV Special after his movie period without any stage appearances.

This TV special included the first ever unplugged session presented together with musicians from the early days such as Scotty Moore and D.J. Fontana. 1973 saw THE TV mega event at all: Elvis Presley, 'Aloha From Hawaii via Satellite'! Elvis' Honolulu appearance, the first time that a show was broadcasted worldwide via satellite! He was ahead of his time! Elvis Presley had 148 US single chart hits, including some so-called double-sider when A- and B-side both hit the charts like his 1956 smash 'Don't Be Cruel b/w Hound Dog', plus 15 EP hits between 1956 and 1977. Two billion of sold media and sound carriers by Elvis Presley is the estimated number! He received 14 Grammy nominations until 1978 and three Grammy for his Gospel interpretations. Elvis was the youngest artist when honored with the Bing Crosby Award (Lifetime Achivement Award) in 1971.

He is presented in 5 Halls of Fame (Rock'n'Roll, Rockabilly, Country, Blues and Gospel). Six of his song interpretations are collected in the Grammy Hall of Fame. On top of it all Elvis Presley got the most gold and platinum records and a Diamond-Award. He definetly is the 'Best selling solo artist in U.S. History' (RIAA – Record Industry Association of America)! Elvis emotionalisiert. Vom Oktober 1958 bis März 1960 wohnte Elvis Presley privat in Bad Nauheim. Als G.I. war er stationiert in Friedberg. Elvis lässt weltweit Menschen noch heute miteinander feiern und lachen – aber auch miteinander um ihn streiten. Verlegerin Beatrix van Ooyen spricht aus Erfahrung, wie sie sagt. Die Emotionen ihrer Autorin Heli von Westrem könne sie sehr gut nachvollziehen. Ihr Buch „Elvis & Heli“ liegt nun als 2. Auflage vor. Zornig über das Totschweigen durch Priscilla, der geschiedenen Frau von Elvis Presley, erhielt van Ooyen eines Tages von Heli von Westrem einen Anruf. Sie hatte im Internet Aktionen der Bad Nauheimerin für mehr Wertschätzung von Elvis entdeckt. Das gefiel ihr. Am Ende des Telefonates stand die Niederschrift von Elvis‘ und Helis‘ Liebesgeschichte fest. Aufgrund ihrer negativen Erfahrungen lehnt die Autorin öffentliche Auftritte ab. „Es steht alles in meinem Buch“, stellt sie klar. „Mehrere Buchautoren berichten über mich. Dennoch werde ich in Frage gestellt.“ „Das schmerzt“, so ihre Verlegerin. „Vor nicht allzu langer Zeit lag dem Booy-Verlag eine Anfrage einer internationalen Filmgesellschaft vor. Heli wurde umworben, in einem Dokumentarfilm über Elvis in Deutschland mitzuwirken. Die amerikanische Bestseller-Autorin Suzanne Finstad war extra engagiert, Heli zur Teilnahme zu bewegen - es sei auch die beste Werbung für ihr Buch. Finstad gibt Erzählungen von Elvis‘ G.I.-Kameraden Currie Grant in ihrem Buch „Child Bride“ wieder, wie zum Beispiel: „Heli Priemel, a fifteen year old German Beauty, nicknamed „Legs“, recalled evenings…“, auf die Heli, deren Nachname damals Priemel war, in ihrem eigenen Buch reagiert. Es folgte eine Korrespondenz mit der Filmgesellschaft und Suzanne Finstad per E-Mail, um Telefon-Mitschnitte zu vermeiden, die unerlaubt hätten eingesetzt werden könnten. Heli und ich stimmten uns ab“, berichtet van Ooyen. „Currie Grant, der die 14jährige Priscilla Beaulieu aus Wiesbaden Elvis zuführte und sich kurz nach Elvis‘ Tod 1977 mit Heli am Frankfurter Flughafen verabredete, würde sich sehr darüber freuen, mit Heli in alter Freundschaft wieder sprechen zu können, vermittelte uns Autorin Finstad. Doch es blieb bei der Absage von Heli. Zu groß sind ihre Verletzungen“, schildert die Verlegerin.
Heli von Westrem, deren Großvater Kurt Priemel Zoodirektor in Frankfurt war und deren Eltern eine Filmgesellschaft besaßen, fuhr mit ihrer Schwester Isa-Vera im Mai 1959 nach Bad Nauheim. Die ältere Schwester besaß bereits den Führerschein. Ihre Hoffnung erfüllte sich. Sie trafen Elvis. Aufgrund ihres interessanten Autos, einem Opel Kapitän mit Weißwandreifen, gab es noch am selben Tag eine Spritztour mit Elvis auf den Johannisberg. Elvis und Heli wurden ein Paar. Fortan holten Elvis‘ Vater oder Elvis‘ Freunde Heli in Frankfurt ab und brachten sie auch wieder nach Hause. Musik spielte bei den beiden in der Bad Nauheimer Goethestraße 14 eine große Rolle, aber auch das Deutsch lernen, das Essen, Autogramme, Fans, Karate, Elvis Mutter, sein Vater, die Bodyguards und der „Colonel“. Irgendwann tauchte Priscilla auf. Elvis und Heli zogen sich oft auf Elvis‘ Zimmer zurück. Gemeinsame Erlebnisse haben Elvis und Heli in einem Bad Nauheimer Kino, auf einer Bühne in seiner Friedberger Kaserne, im Frankfurter Militärkrankenhaus und in Paris. Dort kommt es zu einem Missverständnis. Entrüstet reist sie ab. „Bei der Arbeit am Buch hörte ich oft heraus, dass ihr Herz immer noch blutet“, so van Ooyen. Im Durcheinander und Trubel des Aufbruchs zum Frankfurter Militärflughafen am 2. März 1960 tauschen Elvis und Heli untereinander ein Foto und eine Schallplatte, je mit einer Widmung. Seither hatten sie keinen Kontakt. Als deutscher Staatsbürgerin war Heli der Zutritt zur „Air Base“ verwehrt. Sie erlaubt sich erst an eine eigene Heirat zu denken, als sie von Elvis‘ Hochzeit erfährt. Alles erinnert sie noch heute an Elvis - he is always on her mind.

Pünktlich zum kalendarischen Frühlingsanfang am kommenden Montag, den 20. März, ist Heli von Westrems Love Story „Elvis & Heli“ als 2. überarbeitete Auflage offiziell verfügbar; sie ist nunmehr zweisprachig, Deutsch und Englisch, sowie ausgestattet mit dem Zusatzkapitel „175 ?“. In den örtlichen Buchhandlungen liegt das Buch bereits aus. Das Buch umfasst 272 Seiten, 14 Abbildungen und zeitgenössische Briefe an Heli, die im Bad Nauheimer Rathaus beglaubigt wurden.

One day, van Ooyen got a call from Heli von Westrem, angry about the silence by Priscilla, Elvis Presley's ex-wife. Heli was courted to take part in a documentary film about Elvis in Germany. The American best-selling author Suzanne Finstad was extra committed to persuading Heli to participate - it would be also the best advertising for her book. Finstad reproduces stories from Elvis‘ GI comrade Currie Grant in her book Child Bride, such as: „Heli Priemel, a fifteen year old German Beauty, nicknamed „Legs“, recalled evenings...“, on which Heli, whose Surname at that time was Priemel, responds in her own book. Correspondence followed with the film company and Suzanne Finstad by e-mail in order to avoid telephone recordings that could have been used without permission. Heli and I decided this together,“ reports van Ooyen. „Currie Grant, who introduced the 14-year-old Priscilla Beaulieu from Wiesbaden to Elvis and who arranged to meet Heli at the „Airport Frankfurt“ shortly after Elvis‘ death in 1977, would be very happy to be able to speak to Heli again in old friendship,“ author Finstad told us. Heli von Westrem, whose grandfather Kurt Priemel was director from the Zoo in Frankfurt and whose parents owned a film company, went to Bad Nauheim with her sister Isa-Vera in May 1959. The older sister already had a driver‘s license. Her hope came true. They met Elvis. Because of their interesting car, an Opel Kapitän with whitewall tires, there was a jaunt with Elvis to the Johannisberg on the same day. Elvis and Heli became a couple. From then on, Elvis‘ father or Elvis‘ friends picked up Heli in Frankfurt and brought her home back too. Music played a big role for the two of them at the Goethestraße 14 in Bad Nauheim, but also learning German, food, autographs, fans, karate, Elvis‘ mother, his father, the bodyguards and the „Colonel“. Some day Priscilla showed up. Elvis and Heli often retired to Elvis‘ bedroom. Elvis and Heli have shared experiences in a Bad Nauheim cinema, on a stage in his Friedberg barracks, in the Frankfurt military hospital and in Paris. There is a misunderstanding. Indignant, she leaves. „As I was working on the book, I often heard that her heart was still bleeding,“ says van Ooyen. In the confusion and hustle and bustle of leaving for the Frankfurt military airport on March 2, 1960, Elvis and Heli exchange a photo and a record with each other, each with a dedication. Since then they have had no contact. As a German citizen, Heli was denied access to the „Air Base“. She only allows herself to think about marriage when she finds out about Elvis‘ marriage. Everything still reminds her of Elvis - he is always on her mind.

Just in time for the beginning of spring this Monday, March 20th, Heli from Westrem‘s love story „Elvis & Heli“ is officially available as the 2nd revised edition; it is now bilingual, German and English, and has the additional chapter „175 ?“. The book is already available in the local bookstores. The book has 272 pages, 14 pictures and contemporary letters to Heli, which were authenticated in the Bad Nauheim‘s town hall.

Wer Elvis wirklich verstehen möchte, sollte auch dieses Buch unbedingt lesen ! / If you really want to understand Elvis, you should definitely read this book!

DEUTSCH: Ich empfehle das Buch ELVIS & HELI ganz genau zu lesen, wenn einem daran liegt, Elvis besser zu verstehen! So unterscheiden sich 1. und 2. Auflage, bzw. das ist in ELVIS & HELI, 2. Auflage neu: Die aktuellste Auflage enthält ein neues Kapitel plus ein zusätzliches Foto. Die Kapitel wurden überarbeitet. Und das Buch ist nun zweisprachig: es enthält den Text auf Deutsch und auf Englisch. Heli von Westrem berichtet von ihren persönlichen Erlebnissen mit Elvis in Bad Nauheim, Friedberg, Frankfurt und Paris. Die Grundlage für einen Blockbuster zu liefern, war nicht ihre Intension. Sie erzählt ohne reißerische Hysterie, sondern erzählt, wie es wirklich war! Beispielweise Priscilla Presley, Currie Grant und Suzanne Finstad (Child Bride) könnten das bestätigen. Interessant ist auch die erste Auflage. Das Buch Elvis & Heli gehört in jede Sammlung eines wahren Elvis-Fans.

ENGLISH: I recommend reading the book ELVIS and HELI very carefully if you want to understand Elvis better! This is how the 1st and 2nd editions differ / this is new in ELVIS & HELI, 2nd edition: The latest edition contains a new chapter plus an additional photo. The chapters have been revised. And the book is now bilingual: it contains the text in German and in English. Heli von Westrem reports on her personal experiences with Elvis in Bad Nauheim, Friedberg, Frankfurt and Paris. Providing the basis for a blockbuster was not her intention. She tells without lurid hysteria, but tells how it really was! For example Priscilla Presley, Currie Grant and Suzanne Finstad (Child Bride) could attest to that. The first edition is also interesting. The book Elvis and Heli belongs in every collection of a true Elvis fan.

Ein phantasievolles Geschreibsel.Mehr Phantasie als Fakten ( wenn es überhaupt welche gibt ). Es verwundert einen schon, dass hier eine 2.Auflage gedruckt wurde.Leider nicht zu empfehlen.
