When the album was originally released on CrossCut in 2001, it was far ahead of its time. Frank Goldwasser can hardly be classified. His blues crosses boundaries without a mill, is sophisticated, well thought out and on the highest level. His songs are original and the arrangements innovative and exciting. Each title is a little masterpiece with unusual details. For example, an Indian tabla makes an appearance, congas can be heard and excellent brass sections. In the foreground, however, is Frank's guitar. With his 'poisonous' tone and soulful playing style, he shapes the album in an impressive way.
'Bluju' stands out even from the crowd of current releases. Stylistically difficult to categorize, the CD wins the more often you listen to it. Only then do the subtleties of the concept reveal themselves.
Frank Goldwasser has succeeded with 'Bluju' a big hit - as a blues cosmopolitan he works equally successful in the USA and Europe and is not afraid to sing a blues in French. Powerful! Not to forget the support of Alex Schultz, the congenial guitar colleague from Los Angeles. He and Frank complement each other perfectly. Like good wine, an album that gets better and better with the years!
