Moon Mullican: Sings His All-Time Greatest Hits (LP)

(Official/Sing) 12 tracks

Throughout the years, through the periods of swing, rock and roll, calypso, and other music crazes, country music has held its own, and even grown in popularity! The basic down-to-earth quality of country mu-sic has an appeal for all ages which never dies. From an 87 acre farm deep in Texas has come Moon Mullican, who has grown to be one of the all time greats in folk music history.

When Moon was but eight years of age, his father brought a pump-organ to the farm house. It wasn't long before Moon was developing his distinctive two finger, right hand style which won him fame as the 'King Of The Hillbilly Piano Players'. While working on his father's farm, he played organ for his friends and neighbors and soon became the organist for the church. For a time he provided music for revival meetings, but the firm hand of his father one day taught him that the song 'St. Louis Blues- was not the proper thing with which to start a prayer meeting.

But folks took to his easy-going style at the piano and one afternoon, in a cafe in Lufkin, Texas he learned he could make more money playing and singing the song people liked than he could working on farm. The big city of Houston beckoned an there he watched, listened and develope his own style to gain greater appeal wit the public. Starting with other leadin singer groups, he later developed his ow band and traveled throughout Texas an Louisiana. In 1919, his travels brought to Hollywood where he made the pictur--Village Barn Dance

Since then, he has appeared in a nun ber of other pictures and has done a lot radio and night club work. He owned h own clubs in Beaumont and Port Arthu_ Texas. This album presents the 'best of Moon Mullican' . . . picked from the most r quested numbers during personal appea ances. MOON MULLICAN

MOON'S ROCK

After finally getting free from King Records, Moon went on to record for Decca and Coral Records during the heart of the rock 'n' roll era, and that's the part of Moon's story we're telling here. He re-cut some of his big hits, like Pipeliner Blues, Sweeter Than The Flowers and I'll Sail My Ship Alone. He also cut a lot of great new songs, including Jennie Lee, Sweet Rockin' Music, Early Morning Blues, Colinda, and Cush-Cush, Ky Yay.
