The Monks
The Monks Fünf "Mönche" aus den USA sind Mitte der 60er Jahre ein Geheimtipp in der BRD: The Monks. Hervorgegangen aus einer 1962 gegründeten Band namens Torquays, sind die Monks in der Gegend um Frankfurt/Main hängen gebliebene ehemalige US-Soldaten. Sie lassen sich Tonsuren schneiden und treten in dunklen Kutten auf. The Monks sind der Leadsänger Gary Burger aus Minnesota an der Gitarre, Roger Johnson aus Texas am Schlagzeug, Larry Clark aus Chicago an den Tasten (Orgel), Dave Day aus Washington am Banjo oder an der Gitarre (auch Sänger) sowie Eddie Shaw aus Kalifornien am Bass. Ihr Sound explodiert. Zusammen mit dem Polydor-Produzenten Jimmy Bowien finden sich das Quintett im Studio ein und nimmt das Album "Black Monk Time" (1966) auf. Eines der LP-Stücke ist "Complication".
