geb. 15. 11. 1929 in Audubon/Iowa Record Labels: MGM, Polydor Erster Hit: Old Home Filler-Up An' Keep On-A-Truckin` Cafe (1974) Erster No. 1 Hit: Convoy (1975) William Fries alias C.W. McCall studierte einst Kunstgeschichte, wurde Werbefachmann und lieh für ein „Commercial“ seine Stimme einem fiktiven Old Home Bread Truckdriver namens C.W. McCall. Die Commercial-Serie wurde erfolgreich und William Fries übernahm die McCall-Rolle, erhielt einen Schallplattenvertrag und überrascht seither seine Zuhörer mit immer neuen spannenden Geschichten, vorgetragen in einer Art Sprechgesang. Sein größter Erfolg wurde die später verfilmte Geschichte ,Convoy.
